Title:
installer's partition manager should show more information to
differentiate between drives
Status in One Hundred Papercuts:

Status in ubiquity package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
I have just installed Ubuntu to a wrong partition, formatting 80 GB of
data from my hard drive by mistake.
Looking back on what happened, I can say that the installer's
partition manager couldn't have been more ambiguous about my
partition's info. Failing to display basic information like my
partitions' labels and my hard drives' models, and displaying the
partition sizes in megabytes when they all exceed the 1GB barrier,
making it very easy to get confused with my several partitions/hard
drives.
I think this is a serious issue, relying on the user to guess which
partition is which based only on their sizes (in megabytes) is
completely nonsense.
The Advanced partition manager of the installer has to be a little more advanced than this, It has to:
1) Show clearly the partition's labels if present.
2) Show every textual information known about each hard drive, like its model string.
3) Express units larger than 1024 MBs in GBs and larger than 1024 GB in TBs and so on..
I really hope that you take this under serious consideration. I can't
begin to express how big the loss I've just encountered because of
this.
