Title:
Names of Grub menu entries no longer say which version of Ubuntu

Status in grub2 package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: grub

I installed Lucid Alpha 2 on a separate disk from karmic. Grub worked
fine, and both Lucid and Karmic are bootable, however the menu entries
  it generated read like this:

  Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.31-17-generic

As far as I can tell, this was a regression in Karmic, since Jaunty
  had menu entries like this:

  Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-9-generic (on /dev/sdb1)
