  Suspect something in my distribution is damaaged, as I rreceived a similar errorwhen upgrading Firefox from 3.6.8 to 3.6.11. 
  OS is Ubuntu 9.04
  Received crash report when upgrading Firefox; message indicated grub could not be updated.  I was attempting to reinstall grub through symantic package manager.
