Title:
  booting stops at grub prompt, can boot system manually
  (maverick->natty)

Status in grub2 package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: grub2

  I upgraded my system from maverick to natty earlier today. When I
  rebooted grub halted at the grub prompt. I was able to boot the
  system manually by entering a suitable "linux ...", "initrd ...",
  "boot" sequence.

  I noticed that I had no /boot/grub/device.map file. Running "grub-
  mkdevicemap" created a reasonable looking device.map but didn't help
  my problem, so this may not be relevant.
