Title:
Please provide a option to continue failed upgrades with the in-place
  upgrader

Status in ubiquity package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
The release upgrader is writing a file /var/log/dist-upgrade/apt-
clone_system_state.tar.gz. It would be nice if ubiquity would be able
to detect the presence of those files and use it as a apt-clone source
  file for the reinstall-but-preserve-home setting.

This would be useful if the in-place upgrade failed for some reason. The user would then have a pretty good recovery option to finish the upgrade (but just doing a install and then restoring the clone information). Maybe as a option during the install like:
"A upgrade attempt from $date was found, would you like to finish this upgrade now?"

If any features in the release upgrader are required to make your life
easier, I will be happy to add them. E.g. writing a "successful" stamp
at the end of the upgrade or renaming apt-clone_system_state.tar.gz to
${from_distro}_system-state.tgz or something like this (apt-clone info
will actually contain the info though).
