Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

The ubuntu-release-upgrader package is used when you run `do-release-
upgrade` and move from 18.04 to 18.10, or in the future from 18.04 to
20.04 (future because it won't work yet as is enabled after 20.04.1 is
released). I see no evidence of either of those release-upgrades
occurring, so the package could be changed to 'linux'

>From your description, and with your machine I'd be looking at your
hardware. Have you run a complete memtest on your system?

** Package changed: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu) => linux (Ubuntu)

Title:
  No boot after an update.

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
After an update, my computer will no longer boot. I only see a black screen. No grub menu. After a couple of forced restarts, the file system gets corrupt. This happens both on XUbuntu 18.04.4 and 19.10.
I am not sure if it had something to do with RAM upgrade or was it just a coincidence that I replaced a 4GB RAM module for an 8GB module and the next day my computer would not boot after an update. With clean install to any version everything works fine. It might be of some significance to know that my Assus VivoBook with Ryzen3 CPU has 4GB somewhere embedded and a separate 4GB module in the SODIMM slot, so it reports 8GB of RAM. After upgrading the RAM module to 8GB, it reports 12GB of RAM. I no longer had the patience to test if this would happen with the old 4GB module.
