Insert your USB stick or DVD and reboot your computer as if you were
going to install Ubuntu. You will see a menu that includes "Check disk
for defects". Select that option. Your computer will check the ISO
image. If it finds an error then you will not be able to install Ubuntu
but will have to start again by re-writing the downloaded ISO image to
USB or DVD.
You should also check your downloaded ISO. See
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM
Good luck!
