Title:
Ubiquity installation hangs & fails due to nvidea-uvm probe error

Status in ubiquity package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Installation of Ubuntu 19.04 (disco-desktop-amd64.iso, daily build
2019-02-03 10:50) hangs and ultimately fails (i.e. the installation
does not progress beyond this point), between the Disk Setup and the
Timezone step. This happens regardless of whether having clicked to
install straight away, or from a live desktop session.

From a live desktop session, the journal shows the following error
(datetime obviously changes) which loops continuously for the duration
of the installation 'hang' (this message can also be seen via dmesg):

Feb 15 22:18:19 kubuntu kernel: NVRM: No NVIDIA graphics adapter probed!
Feb 15 22:18:19 kubuntu kernel: nvidia-nvlink: Unregistered the Nvlink Core, major device number 237
  Feb 15 22:18:19 kubuntu systemd-udevd[17889]: Process '/sbin/modprobe nvidia-uvm' failed with exit code 1.
Feb 15 22:18:20 kubuntu kernel: nvidia-nvlink: Nvlink Core is being initialized, major device number 237
Feb 15 22:18:20 kubuntu kernel: NVRM: The NVIDIA probe routine was not called for 1 device(s).
Feb 15 22:18:20 kubuntu kernel: NVRM: This can occur when a driver such as:
NVRM: nouveau, rivafb, nvidiafb or rivatv
NVRM: was loaded and obtained ownership of the NVIDIA device(s).
Feb 15 22:18:20 kubuntu kernel: NVRM: Try unloading the conflicting kernel module (and/or
NVRM: reconfigure your kernel without the conflicting
NVRM: driver(s)), then try loading the NVIDIA kernel module
                                  NVRM: again.
