Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * Unattended-upgrades crashes when initializing the cache preventing security updates to be applied.
   * The fix prints an error message then exits

   * The fix is simply catching the error and exiting, there is little
  room for regressions. In the worst case u-u crashes differently when
