Hello Jullian!
Would you please clarify what part of the video card installation "broke
the installation"? Do you still possess any of the logs that would
indicate a specific problem?
Has this issue been solved with a later release of Ubuntu?
Best regards,
Mike

Title:
would not install
Status in debian-installer package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
Binary package hint: debian-installer
I have an older version of Ubuntu, 7.1 I think. Previously, I
installed a new vid card, NVIDIA 7900GS and it broke the installation.
I did not know how to fix it, so, I left it alone. The other day, I
decided to try again with an updated version, 8.1. I confirmed that
the old installation was still broken first. I, then, tried the 8.1
regular and it stuck partway through the installation process. It got
to a point where there were funny colors and patterns being displayed
on my monitor. The hard drive was still clicking so I left it alone.
After the hard drive stopped operating, I tried pressing enter and tab
and arrow keys, hoping that it was stuck and needed a simple response
from me. It didn't work. I tried to to use the alternate installer
as well with no luck.
This is my setup:
AMD Athlon64x2 4200
2-WD raptors in raid 0 as boot drive
1-160 maxtor 2nd hard drive
WinXP
For the 7.1 Ubuntu installation, I disconnected power to the raid
array and installed Ubuntu on the 2nd drive. This way, Windows would
still maintain boot priority without asking which OS to boot into. If
i needed to go into Linux, I would change the boot sequence at
startup.
