I'm marking this invalid as it was a hardware issue.
As noted early, it'll server no use unless the installer is going to be
modified to check for hdd errors (making code larger, more of a pain to
maintain..)

Title:
xubuntu 18.10 x86 (32bit) installer crash (hdd badblocks issue)
Status in ubiquity package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Installer crashed - QA tracking, 18.10 xubuntu x86 daily image
-- Summary
HDD bad sectors - badblocks detected; marked & then ubiquity re-run completed.
-- Long version
I suspected (looking at dmesg, adding smartctl, but mainly journalctl) that the cause of the crash was HDD errors on /dev/sdc5 where I was test installing XUbuntu 18.10
see
http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/390/builds/181669/testcases/1302/results/
Badblocks found a number of bad sectors/blocks; it was run twice, then
I re-ran the installer and it succeeded (till boot anyway...)
Note: I'm tempted to mark this as invalid -- unless the installer is
going to be modified to check for hdd errors (making code larger, more
of a pain to maintain..) - it'll be of no use!
