Title:
Upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04 fails when trying to sett new software
  channels

Status in ubuntu-release-upgrader package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I had closed most of the 3rd party software on my computer, and have
removed all non-ubuntu software distributions. Yet I keep getting an
error when I try to upgrade to 18.04 when setting new software
channels. I'm not sure what other information would be useful besides
the laptop. On that note, I am using a Lenovo Yoga 2 and running
  Ubuntu 16.04.
