Public bug reported:

grub does not boot at various conditions. It works if the laptop is
undocked, no external monitor is connected and if no external Keyboard
is connected. In all other cases grub hangs initializing devices:

- Laptop undocked, but external monitor connected: grub hangs while initializing graphics. It never gets out of looping over the external monitor device. Both(!) screens stay blank. The internal screen has its backlight turned on, but is not selected as drawing device. Grub never displayes anything on any screen.
Taping on/off immediately turns computer off again.

- Laptop docked, no external monitor connected: grub hangs while initializing additional io devices. It never gets to initializing graphics. The interal screen stays blank, backlight is turned off.
Taping on/off immediately turns computer off again.

- Laptop docked, external monitor connected: grub hangs while initializing additional io devices. It initializes external monitor and graphixs. External monitors backlight is turned on, but grub hangs while initializing internal graphics.
Taping on/off immediately turns computer off again.

- Laptop undocked, external Kexboard connected: grub hangs while initializing external keyboard.
Taping on/off immediately turns computer off again. Grub menu is shown, but you no keybress recognized.

- Laptop docked, external Keyboard connected: grub hangs while initializing external keyboard.
Taping on/off does not turn computer immediately off again. You'll have to press the key for at least three seconds. Keyboard does not function. No keypress recognized. Grub shows grub menu, but hangs loading os.

Same cases for a non laptop computer equiped with laptop equipment and
mainboard. Grub never shows grub menu on this computer, hanging while
initializing graphics.
