  Crontab fails with 'Permission denied'

Status in cron package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  It is the same tab that was running on 16.04. I have web searched the
  issue, and reported to the Mate forum, without solution. I am not a
  newbie, I know about permissions, and I have tried everything. My user
  account is added to the crontab group. The file in
  /var/spool/cron/crontabs/<user> has the correct permissions.
