Your disk is currently partitioned to boot in bios mode, but you booted
the installer in EFI mode. You either need to boot the installer in bios
mode, or partition the disk using GPT and set up an EFI system partition
to install in EFI mode. This will be done for you if you choose the "use
entire disk" guided install option.

Title:
installation of ubuntu failed (couldn't write grub to /)
Status in grub-installer package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
I was trying to install ubuntu from a USB drive. There is a Windows 10
installation. During the installation I created a partition in unused
space on the hard drive and chose to mount it to /. The installation
seemed to run smoothly but in the end it stated that it can't write
the grub files to the destination and this would make the installed
system unbootable.
