I have managed to resolve this by removing the following packages:
aptitude remove libsoup2.4-1 libxml-libxml-perl libxml-libxslt-perl
As well as
apt-get remove postgres* postgis*
(that had been reported elsewhere)
** Attachment removed: "VarLogDistupgradeAptclonesystemstate.tar.gz"

This occurs even when the packages postgis* postgres* are removed. How
can I find which packages are the offending ones so I can remove them?
