This bug report isn't really useful if you don't say which version of
ubuntu-release-upgrader you were using. There were changes made to it
recently to display specific error messages depending on which partition
is full.

ubuntu-release-upgrader (1:17.10.7) artful; urgency=medium

  * DistUpgrade/DistUpgradeController.py: Provide better instructions when an
upgrade is aborted due to a lack of free space in a partition.
    (LP: #1721882)

** Changed in: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Incomplete

Title:
do-release-upgrade doesn't report useful info if a partition is full

Status in ubuntu-release-upgrader package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I was trying to upgrade and do-release-upgrade was failing saying
  there's no enough disk space.

This isn't really useful if it doesn't say which partition has that
issue and how much space the upgrade process will take.

I managed to solve my particular issue but I think it would be helpful
if the required info was given with the error message, if it checks
for disk space,I assume the information is there, just not shown to
  the user.
