  failed to load grub on fresh install

Status in grub-installer package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  16.04 loaded from bootable usb.  Mythbuntu had crashed during upgrade
  to 17.10 so trying a fresh install to and erase all and install ubuntu
  16.04.  But fails to install Grub every time.
