Jack,

Sorry for the delay in response.  I've been swamped with other stuff.  I
expect that you've had similar experiences.

I'm also sorry for not providing more info.  Although I've been using
lubuntu for a long time, I'm still a newbie when it comes to helping
others to troubleshoot.

I tried again today with the same computer after installing all of the
most recent updates and got the same response.  There is no further
information available from the distribution upgrade window, just the
thought that I should report the problem.

I'm attaching a pair of log files that might be helpful.

Since I am a newbie when helping you to troubleshoot, explicit
directions on what I should do to help you would be extremely useful.

  I'm assuming this is a bug, because the application suggested that I
  report it as such.  I waited until the (delayed) 18.04 official
  release.
