Why do you have the grub package installed?  This is obsoleted in favor
of grub-pc from grub2.

  Whenever I log into my computer I get a message telling me that there
  was an error. Also, a long time ago, grub stopped working. Whenever I
  booted my computer, it went straight into ubuntu, without going
  through grub first.
