To shorten this, next steps:

I would ask you to first try it again like this:

$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt -f install

And please report the full console output you get.
If that still fails, we can investigate debugging options.

If the above fails add "set -x" as second line to /var/lib/dpkg/info/samba-common.postinst
Then run:
$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure samba-common
And report that full console log as well.
