debian/libgd3.symbols lists the type from 2.1.0~alpha which makes
present in all supported Ubuntu versions:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: libgd2-xpm

  gdImageEllipse is missing in the library but is declared correctly in
  the header /usr/include/gd.h:639 (and 663...),  but the implementation
  was not built.

  It will make even harder for me to support both system and bundled GD
  in php, any chance to get that fixed in stable release?
