This is not valid anymore, as 8.10 and 9.04 are quite ancient now, and reached their EOL years ago.
I would mark it as "Won't fix" or "Abandoned" but apparently it's not an option.

Title:
package libgraphviz4 2.20.2-3ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade:
Status in graphviz package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Binary package hint: graphviz
Hi,
I tried to upgrade from ubuntu 8.10 to 9.04 today, but it failed after this message about graphviz.
/var/log/dist-upgrade/main.log (attached) complains for many dependency errors after that.
A rollback was promised but I looks like not having been performed:
$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 9.04
Release: 9.04
$ apt-cache policy graphviz
graphviz:
Installed: 2.20.2-3ubuntu2
Candidate: 2.20.2-3ubuntu2
Version table:
*** 2.20.2-3ubuntu2 0
500 http://ftp.oleane.net jaunty/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
I upgraded from 8.04 to 8.10 only last saturday, it went fine.
I don't know yet if it is related, I had compiled graphviz-2.18/ in /usr/local/src but without sudo (just added permissions on /usr/local tree to my account).
Now it is broken:
$ ls -l `which dot`
-rwxrwxr-x 1 mich admin 22791 2008-06-10 20:42 /usr/local/bin/dot
$ dot
dot: error while loading shared libraries: libltdl.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
$ ll /usr/bin/dot
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 5492 2009-03-30 12:15 /usr/bin/dot
$ /usr/bin/dot
/usr/bin/dot: error while loading shared libraries: libltdl.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
$ locate libltdl.so
/usr/lib/libltdl.so
/usr/lib/libltdl.so.7
/usr/lib/libltdl.so.7.1.2
$ ll /usr/lib/libltdl.*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 941 2009-01-16 11:58 /usr/lib/libltdl.la
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 30104 2009-01-16 11:58 /usr/lib/libltdl.so.7.2.0
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 41852 2009-01-16 11:58 /usr/lib/libltdl.a
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 2009-05-01 13:36 /usr/lib/libltdl.so.7 -> libltdl.so.7.2.0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 2009-05-01 13:36 /usr/lib/libltdl.so -> libltdl.so.7.2.0
I'm not sure it worked last week, but I use dot very often (e.g. with doxygen) , it worked fine on 8.04 .
This dependency on version 3 of the library sounds strange to me:
$ apt-cache search libltdl
libltdl7 - A system independent dlopen wrapper for GNU libtool
libltdl7-dev - A system independent dlopen wrapper for GNU libtool
libguile-ltdl-1 - Guile's patched version of libtool's libltdl
Please tell me if you need any more information.
Any suggestion welcome, because I really need graphviz...
TIA,
RockyRoad :)
