Upon investigating further I now suspect it is systemd-logind which causes the problem.
As can be seen in auth.log, the system-logind tries to start a new session every second for an unknown reason.
In /var/log/syslog I see corresponding messages like this:

Bug description:
  my auth.log is full of messages like below.
  The 79.247.. is my own address and there seems to be something which tries to reconnect every other second although I am already in a running session.
