The  way I managed  it was  by taking athens on turn  2 with a boatload
of  mercenaries. Whilst this will make macedon hate you, it drastically
increases  your income and means that sparta will hopefully  throw
their  armies against  it, allowing  you to easily mop up.

If you  manage to neutralise athens and sparta, the campaign is then
very easy as you can  deal with macedon at  your leisure. Just watch out
for rome as they have  a tendency  to declare  on you early on.
