Public bug reported:

Report told me its a bug. Dell Inspiron 3668 128SSD 1TB I partitioned C: windows10 with shrink Win about 80GB New partition for Linux about 30GB Partitoned D: with shrink 140GB for win New partition for Linux Home
Put in live usb Something else as above Left efi boot to find its own place Windows already had a 500mb partition When installation got to installing grub Got fatal error Tried several times to install fresh not reinstall Pointed boot to sda1 but same fatal error grub not installed A window came up saying when I closed it I would be able to post a bug but this didnot happen Then I downloaded and ran boot repair which gave an error report which I tried to save and copy but it wouldnt let me so I tried to fresh install and got this error saying grub did not install but different message than before Sorry Im not more correct with my description. I downloaded iso by bit torrent. MD5 correct When I checked before running said there were 3 errors but was working when I tried without installing
I will download from official source now and try again 16.04.3
 i5-7400 CPU at 3.00 GHz Ram 8GB 64bit
Boot repair did something cos I can see Ubuntu in the bios Windows still boots or it did until now Just going to check now Install does not complete after grub failure so before this attempt to install tried booting ubuntu but got message saying had to mount kernel first. I am not technical and have a hard time following technical jargon Happy to give more info but you have to ask in simple terms!! Sorry and hope this helps Jonathan Green
