Title:
bzr error message for http 500 series error codes is invalid
Status in Bazaar:
Confirmed
Status in bzr package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Binary package hint: bzr
Version: 1.0-1~gutsy1
I just tried to branch something from Launchpad, using an invalid URL,
and Launchpad returned a 500 error code. (It should have returned 404,
I think, but that's beside the point for this bug about bzr.)
Bzr then gave an error about "Invalid http response". If we accept the
premise that the server actually had an internal error, then the 500
error code was perfectly valid. It is not something bzr can do
anything about, except print out an error to explain things to the
user. The point of this bug report is that the error is not as clear
to me, the user, as it should be. Further detail in the IRC log
snippet below.
<liw> "bzr: ERROR: Invalid http response for
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/%7Eubuntu-core-dev/update-manager/.bzr
/branch-format: Unable to handle http code 500: Internal error"
[inane whining from me deleted]
<liw> it's still a) not a good error message from bzr and b) not
particularly help from launchpad to redirect instead of giving an
error
<liw> lifeless, "Invalid http response" should at least say "Server
error" or something... it's a perfectly valid response, if the server
is broken :P
<lifeless> liw: its not valid for bzr
<lifeless> liw: but I agree; bug time
<liw> that's what I'm good for, whining on irc so that other people
get more work :)
<lifeless> yup
<lifeless> and for filing bugs for me
<liw> I was hoping you would, damn
