Reproduced in gcc (Ubuntu 5.4.0-6ubuntu1~16.04.4) 5.4.0 20160609,
compiling
https://github.com/hashcat/hashcat/tree/ef004e85f0ca0f3566ae96041cac8f37e13ed1f0
locally. High disk activity and system becomes unresponsive after about
10 seconds.

Not reproducible in the latest version of the hashcat src and couldn't
reproduce from compiling the readxl and Rcpp packages in RStudio, so I'm
not actually sure this is a bug in GCC per se.

Title:
System Completely Hangs When Compiling Certain Packages

Status in gcc-5 package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Distributor ID: neon
Description: KDE neon User Edition 5.9
  Release: 16.04
  Codename: xenial
  Linux neon 4.4.0-62-generic #83-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jan 18 14:10:15 UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

  Package: gcc
  Version: 4:5.3.1-1ubuntu1

  Package: make
  Version: 4.1-6

  To reproduce:
In a live session, download hashcat source - https://github.com/hashcat/hashcat
  Requires opencl-headers (install through apt)
Run make in the hashcat-master dir.

Outputs gcc compiler flags, then after about 5 - 10 seconds, the
system completely freezes up. Mouse becomes unusable, audio starts
looping if playing in background. Requires REISUB to reboot if frozen.

Reproduced on two different laptops, and on a Mint 18.1 live session.
Also encountered when trying to compile an Excel import package for
RStudio, so I think this issue probably affects most instances of the
current gcc version under certain conditions.
