I also tried to have bootloader installed on SDA, same disc as lubuntu,
partitioned the following way : 22Go EXT4 root, ~90Go EXT4 /home, 8Go
Swap. Nothing else on partition table.

Title:
ubiquity crash while performing fresh install from live media

Status in grub-installer package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  'lsb_release -rd'
  Description:	Ubuntu 16.10
  Release:	16.10

  'apt-cache policy ubiquity'

          500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu yakkety/main amd64 Packages

What I expected to happen :
Complete install of lubuntu without error

  What Happened instead :
ubiquity crashed while "installing grub2" to a different SSD than where lubuntu install is located (lubuntu install is in SDA while I wanted bootloader to install to SDD, both are SSD's)
