This appears to be a compiler bug. Not a problem with the nvidia driver
itself.

** Summary changed:

- nvidia-384 384.90-0ubuntu3.17.10.1: nvidia-384 kernel module failed to build
+ nvidia-384 384.90-0ubuntu3.17.10.1: nvidia-384 kernel module failed to build [cc: internal compiler error: Killed (program cc1)]

** Package changed: nvidia-graphics-drivers-384 (Ubuntu) => gcc-7
(Ubuntu)

Title:
  nvidia-384 384.90-0ubuntu3.17.10.1: nvidia-384 kernel module failed to
build [cc: internal compiler error: Killed (program cc1)]

Status in gcc-7 package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
**NEW COMPUTER BUILD** I had been experiencing buggy graphics
behavior, and installing a driver from the additional drivers tab of
the software and updates window helped, but did not completely fix the
problem. So I went to the nvidia website and installed their newest
driver which I believe is a bit newer than yours. (384.98) for some
reason the install process was super slow, so i left it running over
night. In the morning the system was completely locked up. Upon
reboot, the buggy behavior was gone. I went poking around in the
software and updates again, and this error popped up. additional
drivers still shows 384.98 selected, so i think there might be an
  issue there.

  Hardware:
  Intel i7-8700k @ 3.7GHz boost to 4.7GHz
Asus ROG Maximus X Hero (WIFI AC) - wireless doesn't work by the way... asus doesnt seem to have a driver for linux yet.
  16gb, DDR4 3200 Ram
  EVGA Hybrid SC2 GTX1080 Ti
6tb WD Black HDD, Linux running on 1TB partition. i intend to dual boot eventually with windows as the main in stalled on an m.2 drive.
