Do a reinstall then:

sudo apt install --reinstall python-minimal

Also run this:

ls -la /usr/bin/pycompile /usr/bin/pyclean /usr/bin/python
/usr/bin/python2 /usr/bin/pyversions

  I encountered this error every time while installing any update.
  while installing caffe on my system i installed certain packages which are now causing priblem. kindly guide me to solve this.
