 based installation fails with "Unable to install the selected kernel" message

Linux ltc-test-ci2 4.12.0-11-generic #12-Ubuntu SMP Fri Aug 11 12:23:06 UTC 2017 ppc64le GNU/Linux

Machine Type = POWER8

A debugger is not configured

---Steps to Reproduce---
1) Start Ubuntu 17.10 installation on a P8 BML.
2) Continue with the installation. While trying to install linux-generic image installation fails with following error :

                                    [!!] Install the base system

                    Unable to install the selected kernel                
      An error was returned while trying to install the kernel into the  
      target system.                                                    

      Kernel package: 'linux-generic'.                                  

      Check /var/log/syslog or see virtual console 4 for the details.

While continuing, sometimes hitting this issue,

                                                     [!!] Install the base system
                                                        Debootstrap warning
