So Bug #1682755 was not really a bug. I am sorry for the inconvenience
caused by my lack of knowledge in the system.

Brian Murray showed me the problem and the way to resolve it.
I have to apologize to Brian that I called "Bill" in a eMail is showed here. It was a mistake, but, you know, I'm getting old...

  During the upgrade, this pop-up appeared during the "setting new
  software channels" step:

  Could not calculate the upgrade

  An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

   This can be caused by:
   * Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
   * Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
   * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

  If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the command
  'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal.
