It looks like you set up /dev/sdb8 to be a bios_grub partition, and then
tried to install grub to that partition, which fails.  You need to just
install it to /dev/sdb instead.

Status in grub-installer package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Installation crashed at "grub install" and would not install it on any
  partition I chose to give him. When set to go further without it,
  installation just died. Not sure what happened, hope logs will tell
  you more.
