Title:
Try to drop some more delta now that we move to proper 0.6.x releases

Status in multipath-tools package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Out of the work on the multipath-tools merge for zesty this is here to
track the effort on shrinking the delta we have (if possible):

There might be some potential to drop more, there are two main sources of delta in multipath-tools, those are now grouped
    to help identifying them under:
    - multipath initramfs fixes for booting from multipathed devices
    - Remove partition device nodes of individual paths (for LVM on multipath)

If we could spend some time after the actual merge in this cycle to filter,
verify and drop some of this that would be great.

It should not be part of the merge process to avoid stalling it, but if we could
get rid of some of this delta it will help to maintain the package.

Doing so will need some buy in by IBM who were the trigger or sources for those
  deltas in the past.
