The indicator that pops up is an indicator of the style used for volume
changes, network connection information, screen brightness, etc. in the
upper right-hand corner of the screen.
It figures that it stops happening after I file a bug report. I should
have filed the report sooner. :)
Thanks

Title:
notifier is very annoying
Status in update-notifier package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
My update notifier keeps popping up often, once an hour or so, and it
pulses every five seconds for thirty seconds or something. It's
insanely annoying, and worse yet, wrong:
$ sudo apt-get -u dist-upgrade
[sudo] password for sarnold:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Calculating upgrade... Done
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
That was seconds after the update notifier finally went away.
I don't recall it being this annoying on 14.04 LTS.
Thanks
