[Bug 1581763] [NEW] Desktop installer does not detect existing raid0 array

I have a machine which is succesfully running 32-bit 15.10 Desktop on
several of raid0 arrays, containing swap, ext3, and lvm/ext3 file
systems. I have released some space on one of the logical volumes, but
not yet created a file system on it. I want to install 64-bit desktop
into this free raid/lvm space so that I can dual boot the machine and
migrate my existing applications and data to the new 16.04 system.

When I boot the xenial live installer DVD it does not seem to detect the
raid arrays. When I select the "something else" option for the
installation target, it lists all the individual partitions but does not
give me the option to activate my raid0 arrays, and so it does not
detect the lvm volumes or the free space. The only choice is to over-
write one of my existing and wanted partitions.

When I run the live system without installing, mdadm is not in /sbin.

In the past, I've used the "alternate installer" iso to activate raid
support during installation, but I can't find an iso with this name on
the current desktop downloads directory.

I am unsure whether I can circumvent my problem by installing a no-
options ubuntu server system and then manually installing the ubuntu-
desktop meta-package over it.
