Actually it is best to install Windows first, then Ubuntu.  The only rub
here is that you installed Windows in bios mode, then tried to install
Ubuntu in EFI mode, and did not heed the warning that you can not do
this, and asked if you wanted to install Ubuntu in bios mode instead, so
that it would be able to correctly dual boot with Windows.  Simply
choose the cancel option at the warning to switch back to installing in
bios mode, and it should work fine.
