You did not create an EFI system partition, which is required to install
in EFI mode.

Cannot seem to write the Master Boot Record anywhere
Status in grub-installer package in Ubuntu:
After installation (I chose UEFI mode), there was an error message to
the effect that there was no place to write the MBR.
