Title:
Version shipped with current 16.04 LTS is way too old and alpha
Status in xz-utils package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
1. run "xz --version", you'll get "xz (XZ Utils) 5.1.0alpha"
2. Browse to http://git.tukaani.org/?p=xz.git;a=blob;f=NEWS;hb=HEAD ; you'll find that v5.1.1alpha is from 2011-04-12. 5.1.0alpha is possibly even older.
Expected result:
No "alpha software" installed when there's better quality releases available
No old software installed when there is at least a newer release avaialble
Actual result:
Alpha software is installed, 5+ years old software is installed
Workaround:
download and install v5.2.2 from http://tukaani.org/xz/
Solution:
Package v5.2.2. to the official repositories
