You can use Unetbootin instead of usb-creator in Ubuntu 16.04 (Xenial),
it's available in ppa:baltix-members/ppa and
https://launchpad.net/~gezakovacs/+archive/ubuntu/ppa

Status in usb-creator package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Description:	Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
  Release:	16.04

  usb-creator-gtk:
    Installed: 0.3.2
    Candidate: 0.3.2
    Version table:
   *** 0.3.2 500
          500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages

  Steps to reproduce:
  1) Insert USB
  2) Launch Startup Disk Creator
  3) Create bootable USB with 16.04 LTS 64-bit image

  What happens:
  - USB is now bootable (sometimes) with Ubuntu, but:

-USB should be formattable and re-writable
