  Computer boots to text when on battery power

Status in plymouth package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: plymouth

  When booting while my laptop is plugged in, I get the graphical splash
  screen, but when the laptop is on battery power, I get the text
  screen. That's the text screen that resembles the graphical one, with
  "Ubuntu 10.4" over four dots that change color. This is a very
  reproducible issue, with the laptop always coming up with a graphical
  splash while plugged in, and with it coming up in text mode at least 9
  times out of 10 when on battery power.

  After the text mode boot, the computer ends up at a black screen. To
  get to the graphical login screen, I have to do something like CTRL-
  ALT-F1 to get to a text login, then follow that with ALT-F7 to get to
  the graphical login screen.

  The computer might eventually get to the graphical login on its own,
  but it takes at least longer than a minute to do so, and I've only
  been able to wait long enough for it to happen once.
