Title:
Windows Vista won't boot after new install of Ubuntu 10.04
Status in grub2 package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Binary package hint: grub
After a complete new install of Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit, Windows Vista
failed to boot from the Grub menu. When I tried to boot to Vista from
the Grub menu I got the recovery partition for Windows Vista which
came pre-installed on this laptop. When I researched the problem I
found that Grub had switched the menu title of the Vista Recovery
partition on /dev/sda1/ with the menu title of the Vista Loader
partition on /dev/sda2/ so that the Vista Recovery entry on the Grub
menu booted to the Vista Loader and the Vista Loader entry on the Grub
menu booted to Vista Recovery. I can still boot to Vista normally;
only the entry titles have been switched. I don't need a solution to
this problem. I am only reporting it in order to save others from the
heartbreak of a completely unnecessary experience trying to repair the
Vista mbr.
The version of grub that I am using is grub-pc 1.98-1ubuntu5.
