The error is because you have an unused flash memory and the installer
defaults to installing grub there if present. Install grub to /dev/sda
instead.
** Package changed: grub-installer (Ubuntu) => ubiquity (Ubuntu)
** Summary changed:
- cannot create boot
+ Default grub boot device needs to not be /dev/mmcblk0
** Description changed:
- Trying to install 11.04 on a DELL 1535 that runs VISTA. Trying to create
- boot sector; ERROR: cannot create boot sector. Tried several logical
- locations. Nothing worked.
+ Ubiquity defaults to installing grub to /dev/mmcblk0 if it exists. This
+ often causes installation failures. It should use /dev/sda whether or
+ not there is a /dev/mmcblk0.
