You were attempting to install go a GPT partitioned disk, while booting
in bios mode.  This requires you to create a 1 mb bios_grub partition.

Bug description:
  Trying to install from a USB drive, created with ubuntu. System boots
  on EFI, installer doesn't appear to detect the EFI system and tries to
  install grub on /dev/sda, which fails and prompts the crash reporter.
