[Bug 1566603] Re: BIOS boot loader failed to install "Fatal error"

You tried to install in EFI mode to a disk partitioned for bios boot.
You need to install in bios mode if that is the case. Also, the
partitions in sdb are primary: logical partitions only exist on an msdos
partitioned disk, not gpt.

** Changed in: grub-installer (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Invalid

Title:
BIOS boot loader failed to install "Fatal error"

Status in grub-installer package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Clean install of Ubuntu Studio 14.04.4 LTS to machine with following specs:

*120GB ADATA SSD - in SDB

       1) Dev/sdb1 BIOS boot 298MB
       2) Dev/sdb2 Ext4 Logical partition mount point "/" 60GB
       3) Dev/sdb3 Ext4 Logical partition Mount point "/home" ~50GB
       4) dev/sdb4 Swap ~8GB
*480 GB SanDisk SSD in SDA position with existing Windows 7 Ultimate
*1TB WD HDD internal for backup
  *Asus M599x evo R2.0 AMD 990X Mobo
  *AMD FX-8350 CPU (liquid cooled)
  *16GB PNY 2133 DDR3 RAM
*ASUS GeForge GTX 750Ti Graphics card
  *AHCI Mode

  BIOS Settings
  Secure Boot off
  Fast boot off
  CSM - Keep UEFI

Have been unable to install Grub with Ubuntu Studio on this machine.
Able to install with EFI boot directly to Ubuntu, or select alternate
boot device in BIOS to boot to Windows. But when Ubuntu installed -
typically "sudo update-grub" One time and then I have a boot menu that
lets me select Ubuntu or Windows without having to go into BIOS
  settings to select my OS.

Have been able to do this with 14.04.4 Unity and some other Ubuntu
  based distros but not Studio.

Will likely be able to resolve this issue on my own. I believe
creating the BIOS partition and selecting it for bootloader install
  caused the error.
