Black Lab Linux is not an official Ubuntu flavor and so is not supported
here.

Title:
Installation from LiveUSB. Getting annoying Errno 5 message. Install
  cancelled.

Status in ubiquity package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
This has happened with Linux Mint 17.2 Xfce and now BlackLab Linux 2015.7 Xfce.
I have successfully installed Xubuntu 15.04 on this very same laptop with the same usb stick so I don't know why I'm getting this error message. Seems to be a problem with Ubiquity.

  Full error message:
*** The installer encountered an error copying files to the hard disk:

  [Errno 5] Input/output error

This particular error is often due to a faulty CD/DVD disk or drive,
or a faulty hard disk. It may help to clean the CD/DVD, to burn the
CD/DVD at a lower speed, to clean the CD/DVD drive lens (cleaning kits
are often available from electronics suppliers), to check whether the
hard disk is old and in need of replacement, or to move the system to
  a cooler environment. ***
