Public bug reported:

I attempted to install Ubuntu 15.10 (64 bit version) from the iso image
ubuntu-15.10-desktop-amd64.iso

To do this i created a new 15 G partition on my disk to hold /, and
added a menu entry to grub in /etc/grub.d/40_custom in the partition
that i'm currently using for 15.04. The entry is

menuentry "Ubuntu 15.10 ISO (hd1)" {
    set isofile="/ubuntu-15.10-desktop-amd64.iso"
    loopback loop (hd1,34)$isofile
    linux (loop)/casper/vmlinuz.efi boot=casper iso-scan/filename=$isofile noprompt noeject toram --
    initrd (loop)/casper/initrd.lz
}

and it works, at least in the sense that i could boot into the
installation cd iso image.

When i booted into the iso image, i clicked on the Install Ubuntu icon,
and told it to put the OS on the new partition i had created
(/dev/sda35), and it appeared to be doing exactly that.

However, after it had been working for a long time (tens of minutes, i
believe) a panel popped up that said: "An attempt to configure apt to
install additional packages from the CD failed". I clicked OK, and then
i got what looked like a normal exit: "Installation finished. You can
continue testing Ubuntu now, but until you restart the computer.....".

Now, although i can boot into the new partition (i had to force my way
in) the installation does not look complete and is certainly not
functional. So, e.g., if i log into the guest account, there's no dock
or anything else visible, and i have to power-cycle to get out.

I've gone through the installation process a few times, and i could run
any kind of experiment (i think) while running off the iso experiment,
if that would help.

** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu)

         Status: New
