Unfortunately, no improvement. The output of efibootmgr -v is now
BootCurrent: 0000
Timeout: 0 seconds
BootOrder: 0000,0001,0002
Boot0000* Notebook Upgrade Bay BBS(CDROM,,0x0).......................................................................
Boot0001* Notebook Hard Drive BBS(HD,,0x0).......................................................................
Boot0002* Notebook Ethernet BBS(128,,0x0)........................E..............................................
Boot0003* ubuntu HD(1,GPT,e4bd275e-2d2b-4e03-b267-f0d38322214d,0x800,0x3d800)/File(\EFI\ubuntu\shimx64.efi)
BTW, I forgot to write that I have also tried (unsuccesfully) to use
boot-repair immediately after noticing that the notebook can not boot in
the expected way.
What I can see upon starting the computer is that it tries to boot from
network and after some period a final message about missing operating
system or something like that appears.

Title:
No bootable image was found.
Status in grub2 package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
Just bought a new laptop (HP ZBook 14) with Windows pre-installed with
UEFI. I wanted to remove Windows and clean install Xubuntu,
unfortunately I get the following error message after the
installation: "No bootable image was found." My ZBook 14 has a mSATA
SSD 128GB and a HDD 500GB. I tried to switch the boot order in UEFI
and I even tried to install Xubuntu without my HDD. Unfortunately
nothing solved the problem. There is one thing to note though, I can
select ubuntu in the boot options and Xubuntu will boot correctly. So
if I am not accessing the boot options, I will get the error message
"No bootable image was found."
JordanU tried to help me and suggested me to use bootinfoscript
(http://pastebin.com/XeWxJkDs). I also did the following in terminal
"sudo efibootmgr" (http://pastebin.com/AzT24J5X).
