Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete.

If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers
to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it
helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem
specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Incomplete

Title:
package samba 2:4.1.17+dfsg-4ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade:
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit
  status 1

Status in samba package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Last evening I lost my launchpad with the menu after a reboot. After about 3 hours of trying to resolve the problem I decided to just reinstall Ubuntu. During install I chose the upgrade to 15.10. ?the install reported that it had problems with some packages and I would have to reinstall them. during the install I lost my smb.conf file so I redid it but when issuing command "/etc/init.d/samba stop" I received the error that "/etc/init.d/samba" was not found. I then issued "apt-get install samba and got the message: Errors were encountered while processing:
   samba
  E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
bruce at Ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-cache policy pkgname
N: Unable to locate package pkgname
I then got the pop up with the bug reporting tool.
sorry if this is incomplete, I am new to linux and trying to learn it.
